Jul 30, 2009  Everything you need to know about Bookworm Adventures Volume 2. About halfway through Bookworm Adventures: Volume 2, the gloves come off. Until then, you're able to happily amble through its pretty world.

Outward game Outward is an open-world RPG where the cold of the night or an infected wound can be as dangerous as a predator lurking in the dark.

As someone who has not played Volume 1 I can’t compare it and would not compare it either. I am just going to talk about this game and what is has to offer the gamer. Maybe you will be inclined to try out the demo as it does take you pretty far. So over all I am just going to go over basics and the first world to give you a taste of what I enjoy about this game.

Games

The main charater is Lex the bookworm. When you start the story you learn how to connect words, use items and how to attack. With the letters you don’t have a time limit to figure out what word you want to make. So really try to make the longest word you can.

Making a longer word will increase the power of your attack against your opponent. You have 16 letters to choose from with the option to scramble the letters as well. If you scramble the letters you lose your turn though so do this wisely as it can be a useful tool in the right situations.

Potions and items are also part of a strategy that will be of use to you in the game. All this time you thought it was just about making long words. Your wrong as you need a strategy to combat the people you go up against. Before you start any level you will be able to pick 1 supporting character after you obtain them.

As well as you will be able to pick two helping items. No I wont go into most of the items as I will cover just two at random. The first is what appears to be space boots. They give the ability to damage the opponent more. The 2nd is a hand mirror so when you get stunned, bleeding, poison, burning or anything else it lessens the amount of turns it goes away by 1.

There are many more combinations then just this and each on with it’s own advantage. Potions you have Health, Power & Heal which are all useful when you have the items available to you. One of the great things about potions is they don’t waste a turn for you. Health of course heals you as power will give your hit damage a boost for one turn.

I enjoy the heal ability as it will negate anything your enemy has done to you or the board. How ever you can only have two items selected at a time so choose wisely.

Supporting Charaters have there own ability that they help you with on your journey. Now maybe it is just me, but I like help along the way in a game. With out going to much into details about all the charaters lets just go over the first one which is Mother Goose.

Now you may think she is worthless, but lets just say she has saved my eggs countless times. Her ability happens every three turns as she will then give you one Health potion at that time. The her timer starts over. So with that being said she is only the first of several supporting characters that you can choose during your game.

Attacking is all about the 16 scrambled letters on the board. The higher the word the better the attack. like scrabble there is kind of a point system with the letters. Common letters have a bronze circle, then uncommon with a silver and rare letters have a gold circle. So keep that in mind also when you try to make your words.

A common misconception is you think a word ends, but you can extend it by adding ed, er, ty, ing & other letters. So in a way a four letter word could now easily be a six letter word and deal more damage. This may be what helps you get a victory or may be your doom when not using them.

After you attack with your work then your opponent will deal you damage, steal from you, put an effect on you or something else.

The levels in this game are fairly simple in terms. You do four to five regular opponents then a Boss battle. All the enemies you deal with in the level will have a common theme to them. Which really brings more to the story in the end. Once you beat a level you will be rewarded with a new item to choose from before going to the next level.

As well if you get close enough you will also be able to play a mini game level to win potions / gems to help down the road. So it would be in your best bet to go there when you see it pop up. While you go through the levels you are also gaing experience that levels you up with more hearts, strenght & defense.

All good things that help you on your journey. One key tip when playing is that if you beat your opponent your health meter will be full for the next battle. This may save you from using a potion that is needed later down the road.

Start-up & Mini Games which should have been done first, but I am going to do it last. So if you purchase the game it will give you the option to also buy it in disc format for back up at about seven dollars. I decided not to since I am low on funds and you get to switch this game five times before you have to re buy it.

Really I don’t see me switching this to a new computer that many times. Make sure you register the game first of course so you don’t get kicked out half way through asking you to buy the game. Once your at the start menu you can either do an adventure or go do some mini games to practice in.

Really I have not touched this option yet, but the mini games I have played are like speed drills on vocabulary. I think this is one metal game my brain really enjoys since it is helpful & builds your mind.

The only bad thing I have a hard time with is being able to use a health potion when I am down to one and not being able to use it. So if you can over look one health potion and don’t mind cartoon graphics. Then I say give this game a try as it is addicting as other PopCap games.

I have said it once and I will say it once more, “I wish a Bookworm Game would come to the PS3 as they are enjoyable.”
