Hi guys, with the release of the above video I thought it'd be smart to share this game with everyone here on.For those that have never heard of Face of Mankind, FoM was a sci-fi MMORPG that opened its doors in April 2004. The game was a sandbox with a heavy focus on player interaction. Every item, every mission or event was created by players. Players would choose the faction they wanted to represent (9 at the start with an additional faction not being available for new players) and would take on everyone else to complete their faction's goals. For those that have heard of the game before, you'll know that the despite offering some amazing experiences, the game was a repeated failure. A failed launch with a disastrous publisher. An attempted relaunch by a new company that had terrible ideas and even worse community interaction. An attempted 'rebirth' that seemed to be just a money grabbing scam.

FoM shut down it's servers in 2015.With all the issues the community had, a lot of us still loved the game. We loved the community that played it and we loved the experiences that you could have while online. Shady deals with the mega-corporations. Fighting against the Law Enforcement Department and what you saw as unjust oppression.

Bringing criminals to justice with your trusty stun gun. Participating in all out wars, for money, for territory, for a senate, all valid options.Which brings us to Mankind Reborn. The game is being developed by BioXide (Christian Aguila) and an additional 20 or so staff members, most of which come from the community itself.Mankind Reborn is a Cyberpunk Player Ran MMO-Shooter, 8 factions with unique background stories and gameplay features fight for control over the galaxy. Economy is completely ran by players, full-loot drop on death and skill-based combat. Players have the freedom of playing the way they want, if they want to be part of the government, a criminal, a mercenary, a miner or part of a corporation, each faction has its own set of leaders and high-command, which lead and create content for members of the faction. The players are given all the tools needed to create their own stories and shape the universe the way they see fit.The game is currently in pre-alpha and having regular testing sessions focused on each of the core systems in the game. We've tested combat which feels a lot more fluid than FoM.

With guns that work well at both long and short range, sometimes combat feels like a tactical TPS, other times it feels like an all out brawl. I need to add that videos of both FoM and MR's combat do not do it justice. The high TTK tends to turn a lot of people off before they even begin but when they give it a go, they find it highly satisfying.

Chaining your shots and trying to out maneuver your opponent really does get the adrenaline flowing. We've been testing the mining and production system. It still has a ways to go but production feels satisfying. There's a sense of accomplishment when you've gathered the materials you need to make your first gun, which you then use to gank someone attempting to make their first gun. It's a wonderful feeling. But seriously, with some tweaks and with more work being done on the mining side (such as passive mining, mineral scanners and more worlds with specific minerals) the whole thing will be very rewarding. We'll soon be testing the markets and other systems when the devs say they're ready to go. Some of these will be open testing so if you're interested, please take a look and maybe sign up to the forums.I can't wait to see this game go live.

I have a lot of faith in BioXide and so do many others. I implore you to keep an eye on this game and be a part of it when it all kicks off. FoM was an amazing experience when we had thousands of players participating. It was a whole different game when thousands left at launch due to subscriptions. We lost that atmosphere and I hope with Mankind Reborn, we can get it back. Is there going to be anything to actually do in this?I loved the idea behind FoM, but unless there was a lot of people on, who all wanted to do something, you just like.sat around chatting to a couple people.A game like FoM that doesn't 100% cash in on the people around you being dependable forms of entertainment would be nice. Even if it's just NPCs with generic quests, dungeons filled with enemies to explore, a casino with a bunch of mini games, nightclubs to hang out in, pretty much anything that adds life into the game when there isn't a faction war going on.

That was one of the primary issues that was noticeable in FoM. Originally when there was plenty of players online you were constantly active. Producing, patrolling, fighting, it was enough but when they lost a significant amount of players (Thanks Ojom) it just wasn't the same and player ran activities became pretty boring, especially by FotD era FoM.So far, the devs have confirmed there will be PvE. Xenos and machines to take on though we haven't been told what the incentives will be yet. Hopefully it'll be interesting enough to participate in outside of just PvP. There's been talk of making areas have a point, with gambling and minigames in bars and what not. You'll be able to hack things to earn intel and credits as well, last I checked.CPC won't have turrets this time but they will have AI drones that will patrol and respond to fights on secure territories.

Taking them out might be fun by itself as well. So, I'm hoping there will be a lot more to do in MR outside of constant beef and faction warfare, that means there will be less strain on the higher ranks who constantly had to organise events and scenarios so that the rest of the players could have fun. That was a job by itself and something I don't want to do again. It's early stuff and the dev team is pretty receptive to suggestions on the forums and discord, they want this to succeed for the players to enjoy so they'll be taking all the feedback on board. My primary focus on the game is to offer incentives for the players to log in everyday and have atleast 2+ hours of gameplay that doesn't depend on other players. Be it randomly generated daily missions, a fun & challenging PvE that blends together with the player related mechanics (Factions & Economy), interactive sandbox worlds, casinos and a bunch of other features still on the drawing board.

Face of Mankind was such a great experience. So many good sandbox features like the player driven factions, missions, and economy. But it definitely had its problems.

The combat was absolutely terrible, the learning experience for new casual players was steep, and the developers were super inconsistent in their communication and direction. In spite of all the problems, the game has so many good memories for me all stemming from that player driven ideology. Protecting the American Enterprises embassy on whatever space station it was while the FDC and the mercenaries waged war. Building up the economy after the big feature update by mining and crafting. Being involved in the Senate and working with the different factions. Not to mention all the countless patrols on planets and outposts.I hadn't heard about this project at all, so thank you for sharing.

I'll definitely be keeping an eye on it. The player driven parts sound great, but I hope they don't try to replicate the disco-dancing combat mechanics.

I know some people grew to like them, but I was never a fan. The early demo footage for FoM had much slower, tactical shooter combat which would have been perfect. I'll be honest. If you didn't enjoy the combat in FoM then I'll doubt you'll be very impressed with this one. From tests, there's been an improvement in what distance some fights can take place but it's only natural that it descends into the 'FoMdance'.

Mankind

The standard duels still happen where two combatants will dodge, weave and attempt to chain their shots to ensure a kill, however during testing we got to play with grenade launchers which made players less likely to cluster, forcing people back into the distance to use cover more effectively. It was quite fun.One of the cool things so far is Bio has stated he wants to be completely transparent and keep the community in the loop with all the updates going on right now. The entire team is on Discord and will quite often participate, give us updates and answer questions.Lots of colonies was the response when someone asked about how many worlds we'd get to play about with. Along with a mission system that worked similar to old FoM so I can guarantee old patrols will be back.

Personally I can't wait to ambush a CPC patrol on one of the earth cities. Syndicate will reign through terror!:)The early footage wasn't a realistic representation.

I was there for the OB, I was there when we were told to do specific movements rather than the bog standard dance. I won't say there was only the FoM dance but combat other than the FDC's firing line (which a lot of other factions took and made theirs) was almost out of the question, even in early FoM. If you couldn't dance then you'd spread out to try and pick targets out of the cluster of players dancing around, hoping someone didn't drop you before you could drag your medikit onto your character. But like I said, there might be further adjustments such as the GL I mentioned above, which could bring some changes and some freshness to combat.

If you couldn\'t dance then you\'d spread out to try and pick targets out of the cluster of players dancing around, hoping someone didn\'t drop you before you could drag your medikit onto your character. But like I said, there might be further adjustments such as the GL I mentioned above, which could bring some changes and some freshness to combat.
