  It has 0 to do with corporate greed. They want to increase their profits. Anyone who runs a business wants that.They at least give you the option to purchase their router.Almost all cable providers charge a monthly router fee now and if they don\'t they will.Some don\'t even allow you to purchase the router so there is no way around rental fees and some don\'t even allow you to use your own 3rd party router.Honestly Verizon would rather you buy the router then rent it as they will make more from the sale up front. Verizon pays well over $200 per router, they don\'t get some bulk discount and that came from a tech who has been working for them for years.

  They have to recoop their costs somehow even if they sell it at a discount. Lower price at greater quantities is better then full cost with smaller sales.If you don\'t agree with how they operate then not giving them your money or business is the thing to do.No I don\'t work for Verizon, but I have run a business before. As a former business owner, then, you understand cost of doing business. When Verizon decided to be more than the original GTE, and get into Internet and TV they took on added costs of being in that business. Routers are required to deliver their service and as such are a cost of business in this industry.I do not know about others charging for routers because my previous company did not, nor ATT before that, nor Verizon, until now.

  

  All of a sudden Verizon decides to charge for equipment that is required to provide the service. They charge me over 200 dollars per month and have a guaranteed income from me for the next 22 months. If they are going broke because they have not been charging for routers, then they should sell off or get out of the business.

  This current business model is not sitting well with many customers. I imagine even some who have been previous business owners. No one is forcing you to do business with them.Btw, ATT does charge a monthly router fee now ($6) so if you weren\'t charged before then you were grandfathered in like a lot of people still are with Fios. Comcast does it, Brighthouse does it, TWC does it now in most places, etc.They are ALL heading this way so it\'s across the board. It\'s not just Verizon.
